Understanding Sensory Processing Disorders – Modules 1 & 2

Target Audience:  QMRPs, Service Coordinators, Case Managers, Behavioral Consultants, Nurses, Direct Support Staff, and anyone who works with people with developmental disabilities.   If you work with a person who responds defensively or negatively to touch, movement or specific ADLs or activities this training may help identify why the person is responding that way and how to begin to address it effectively.

Training Type:  Understanding Sensory Processing Disorders

v           This curriculum defines what sensory processing disorders are and how they may manifest in different individuals.  There are examples of the effects of abnormal nervous system responses and arousal levels.

 

Learning Objectives:

 

·    Understand that all people process information differently and have individual preferences

 

·              Recognize symptoms of Sensory Processing Disorders

 

·              Identify where to go to for evaluation and treatment of Sensory Processing Disorders

 

·              Be informed about the types of services available to and strategies to help individuals with Sensory Processing Disorders

Outreach has 3 different training classes being offered at the Warsaw Public Library on July 9th, 2008.  This will be the last time this year that they will be presented in the northern half of the state.  We have openings in each of the following classes.  Just let me know if you would like to attend.

Prevention of Abuse & Neglect will be presented from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm

Human Rights will be presented from 9:30 am to 11:30 am

Seizure Management will be presented from 1:15 pm to 4:15 pm

Subject: Arc Disaster Relief Funds Still Available

 

The Arc of Indiana has disaster relief funds available to assist 22 additional people with disabilities living in a disaster area who were severely affected by floods or tornadoes tornadoes.  Eligible recipients will receive a $100 debit card to help them pay for immediate needs.  If you live in one of the affected counties, please share this information with disaster relief officials / township trustee office, etc. in your area.

 

To apply for assistance, individuals should contact the local chapter of The Arc in their county, or a local agency providing services to people with disabilities.  Application may also be made through an IPMG Case Manager, Area Agency on Aging,

or a district office of the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services.  The agency will need to submit the completed certification form on behalf of the recipient.

 

The certification form is available at:  www.arcind.org, click on "Disaster Relief Assistance" at the bottom of the web page.

Following is the criteria for Disaster Relief.  

An agency must submit a completed certification form on behalf of the recipient confirming that the person:

is disabled

is a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicaid Disability

lives in a county declared a disaster area

has been severely impacted by the disaster

will use disaster relief funds for financial assistance as a result of loss from the disaster

the funds will supplement, not supplant, other sources of revenue used to pay the person’s monthly bills.
